The SDPOA Memorial Fund was established to provide financial and logistical support to allow members of the San Diego Police Department to attend and represent San Diego at memorial services for law enforcement officers killed in the line-of-duty throughout California and across the United States. In recent years, SDPD Officers have traveled to express their condolences at memorial services in Arizona, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Texas and Washington. This display of support to the families and their law enforcement brothers and sisters is an unfortunate, but meaningful fact of life for those serving our communities. The Memorial Fund also coordinates POA members attendance at the California Peace Officers Memorial in Sacramento and the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC.
The long term objective of the Memorial Fund is to raise awareness and funds to relocate and enhance the existing memorial monument located in front of San Diego Police Headquarters. The current monument lacks the appropriate prominence and does not adequately convey the dignity and respect that is owed to the dedicated men and women that have paid the ultimate price in protecting our community.
An additional objective of the Memorial Fund is to establish, maintain and provide oversight of SDPD Honor One, the San Diego Police Memorial Vehicle.
The Widows & Orphans Fund is a vital part of the San Diego Police Officers Association. We are the ONLY charity in San Diego that directly supports the sworn officers of the SDPD in times of injury or death.
